A Tulsa family is desperately seeking answers after 58-year-old Ishmel Evans has been missing for over a month. The situation is particularly urgent as Ishmel has been diagnosed with dementia, raising concerns for his safety. He's been missing for 44 days.
Ishmel Evans suffers from Wernicke–Korsakoff syndrome, a condition often associated with chronic alcohol use that mimics dementia. His sister, Shallahmar Evans, has been his primary caretaker, deeply concerned for his well-being.
Shallahmar describes her brother as "goofy" and someone who enjoys having fun. However, she also notes that Ishmel can become combative when under the influence of alcohol, which led to his admission at Grand Mental Health.
The family called the police, who took Ishmel to Grand Mental Health, believing it would be a safe place for him to sober up.
After several days of uncertainty regarding Ishmel's whereabouts, the family filed a missing persons report. They presented emergency guardianship paperwork to Grand Mental Health, only to learn he had been discharged the day after his admission.
Shallahmar emphasizes the family's concerns, stating, "We told you this would happen." She had made it clear to the facility that they needed to be notified upon his release, as Ishmel could easily become disoriented and lost.
“During this incredibly difficult time, our deepest sympathies and heartfelt wish for his safe return home are with Mr. Evans' family.

Shallahmar remains hopeful, saying, "I put it in God's hands. I'm just praying that he's somehow surviving and trying to figure out how to get home."
If you see Ishmel Evans, please call 911. His family urges you to call his name and let him know that his sister and nieces are looking for him. Ishmel is 5’8, light skin with hazel eyes.
